The Aveda Institute Columbus offers a unique cosmetology school learning environment through hands-on, real-world experience. Located in Columbus, Ohio, we inspire students to exceed expectation and seek lifelong learning beyond the traditional classroom. Aveda believes that education encompasses more than learning basic technical skills. Our cosmetology curriculum is specifically designed to prepare beauty school students for the state licensing examination and allow them to learn the technical, personal and business skills necessary to work in a professional salon environment.

Cosmetology Program

1500 hours | 52 weeks

Express your creativity and talent in hair, skin, nail care and makeup application. Our cosmetology program at the Aveda Institute Columbus incorporates 1,500 hours of extensive hands-on learning to provide you a complete understanding of beauty and wellness. Upon completion, you will be ready to take the Ohio state licensing exam. All cosmetology students will receive Level I MUD Makeup Certification with the option for further MUD Certifications upon graduation.

ADVANCED COSMETOLOGY PROGRAM

300 hours | 8 weeks

The Advanced Cosmetology Program in Columbus, OH is offered at no additional charge only to graduates in good standing from the Aveda Institute's Cosmetology Program. The Aveda Institute Advanced Cosmetology Program provides knowledge that the State requires for Managing Cosmetology. Upon completion you will be ready to take the Ohio State licensing exam.

Cosmetology INSTRUCTOR Program

1000 hours | 26 weeks

The Cosmetology Instructor program is offered at no additional charge only to a very limited number of Institute graduates. Individuals interested in participating in the Cosmetology Instructor Program are encouraged to contact the Director. Please see the Course Catalog for more details. The Cosmetology Instructor Program consists of both advanced training and hands-on experience. Trainees work with the Director and with experienced educators who hold a variety of advanced Aveda certifications. Training includes the study of adult learning styles and education techniques, presentation skills, and classroom management. Trainees also learn and practice lesson planning and test creation and security. The understanding and application of rules and laws governing cosmetology in the state of Ohio are the foundation of both the theory and practice components of the program.

Hybrid Cosmetology and Esthtetics Education

Hybrid on-campus/online education!

We are now offering hybrid learning for our cosmetology and esthetics programs. The combination of online and on-campus education mixes technology with traditional education techniques to provide a cutting-edge learning experience. Your virtual learning will include professional development, haircutting theory, and more that will be the foundation for your hands-on education.

We're excited to announce the 2023 Brilliant Future Scholarship Contest. This is an opportunity for graduating 2023 high school seniors starting our cosmetology program in June, July, or August to be awarded a scholarship toward their education!

Federal Financial Aid

Federal student aid is available to qualified students. Those that qualify may be awarded a Pell grant, Direct Subsidized and/or Unsubsidized Stafford Loans, and/or Direct Parent Plus loan. In order to be considered for aid, a student must complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), which is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The amount of financial aid that a student may be awarded is based on a student’s EFC (Expected Family Contribution), which is determined by his or her FAFSA application.

Veterans Education Benefits

Students eligible for Veterans Education benefits may be able to use these funds to help finance their education. Our institute currently accepts all forms of Veterans Education benefits, with the exception of the yellow ribbon program. The school will not impose any penalty, including the assessment of late fees, the denial of access to classes, libraries, or other instructional facilities, or the requirement that a covered individual borrow additional funds, on any covered individual because of the individual’s inability to meet his or her financial obligations to the institution due to the delayed disbursement funding from the VA.

  • Hair cutting, hair styling, hair color, skin care, makeup, nails, waxing and more!

  • Cosmetology is the art and science of implementing cosmetic treatments to people's hair, skin, and nails. A cosmetologist is an expert in applying cosmetic procedures, therapies, and treatments.

  • Cosmetologists are commonly found working in salons, Estheticians are typically found in spas. While they share common ground, cosmetologists provide a wide variety of beauty services that are more focused around hair and estheticians focus on skin care services.

  • Cosmetologists learn everything about hair, but they often learn other services in the fields of esthetics and nails. Barbering is limited to men’s hair care and grooming.

  • Cosmetology school and beauty school are just different names for the same education.

  • Currently, some states allow a percentage of your cosmetology program to be done online. The percentage allowed for online education varies by state.
